What I Wore Today: Cycling Edition
So, literally, today was the 2nd time in my life I've ridden a bike outside of my driveway. The first time was on Election Day this year. It's kind of terrifying– 99% of Connecticut towns are not bike-friendly. I had a doctor's appointment a whole bunch of blocks away, and realized I could get there faster than walking, and cheaper (i.e. free) than the bus.
I'm an old pro at bundling up for locomotion in the elements, so here's what I came up with:
: life-saving wool cloche scored at Marshalls many years ago
: equally life-saving faux-pashmina scarf
: leather gloves
: my father-in-law's Army issue coat. Pretty sure one could survive a blizzard in just this.
: Esprit suede booties. I did not actually wear these out, although I probably would have felt safer. Note to self, wear shoes with tread when cycling.
: add fugly, theft-proof, vintage 3-speed
: vintage peach silk blouse
: Express tunic/dress
: vintage leather belt
: over the knee wool stockings on top of footless stirrup tights on top of thin ankle socks. My feet get really cold.
Apparently, my hair inspiration lately comes from Thundercats.
It had started to sprinkle just before I finished my doctor's appointment, so my bike seat was a bit damp. No matter, just wipe that off and be on your merry way! Invincible winter fashion will protect you from rain, sleet, snow and dark of night!
Don’t be a tease: Hair inspiration for the Hospital Ball
Imagine: the lights dim, you've had a couple of martinis, the band is swinging like it's 1959, and your date is leading you to the floor. Your dress fits you perfectly, your shoes are adorable, and you smell good.
Wait, you're not rocking your work-a-day hair, are you?
If you're playing along with the '50s supper club theme for the Danbury Hospital Ball, don't forget the hair! I hope you have an appointment already booked with your stylist, because they're filling up fast this time of year.
Here are some celeb inspired 'dos that will give you that extra, ladylike frame to top off your look.

Here’s a perfect head-to-toe look based around a vintage piece from a local dealer on Etsy!
This is a sassy, Asian-inspired vintage sheath dress, perfect for those who want to look chic, mysterious– and won’t be dancing!
You could take this in a glam-tribal direction with slightly bohemian accessories, or totally Hollywood with clear rhinestones and pewter accessories (it’s hard to tell if the embroidery is actually gold-tone or pewter).
Keep the heels high and your hairdo higher to make sure this doesn’t get too casual.

what i wore
Just tell me if you’re getting sick of outfit posts – I don’t have a lot of time for writing just now…
2 days ago, and today.
Vintage cotton dress, 1950′s, gold and cream woven stripes – thrifted about 10 years ago. I can’t believe my tush still fits into this. Sorry, no bullet bra.
Go-to gray wool cardigan.
Patent belt.
Black herringbone pattern tights – Target
Vintage charm bracelet – from a secondhand store on East Main St, Torrington, like, before I was in high school. A looooong time ago. There is a charm here from LaGuardia Airport. Newer charms received as a gift from my friend Kryste.
Very period-authentic peep toe heels with ankle strap – from Spiegel, about 10 years ago. {I have to admit these are not the shoes I wore to work – my back has been twinging, I think from wearing heels too much, so I wore flats.}
