Girl Crush: Lady Miss Kier

This entry is part 9 of 9 in the series Girl Crush

Girl Crush is back! I know I owe you a few grrrlz…

If you were anywhere near a radio during the ‘90s, you were fortunate enough to hear the heyday of the dance group Deee-Lite.

One can’t help but chair-dance when “Groove is in the heart” graces the airwaves even now.

The most memorable aspect of the group was frontwoman Lady Miss Kier: singer, songwriter, go-go dancer, costumer, fashion designer, club kid messiah…

New Fan Photo in the Gallery!

Hey guys!

Meet my neighbor Gina!

Photo by her equally talented boyfriend, Matt Hunsberger.

She came to my trunk show at Sequel last month, and took home a lovely vintage clutch, navy blue with an Art Deco-y clasp. And she put together this adorable outfit!

She's also an artist and Etsy shop-owner in her own right– check her out!

If you are the proud owner of a piece from Analogue Chic, send me a photo to show your fellow Analoguistas how you styled it– it will go into the Fan Gallery, and you'll get a 15% discount code for your next purchase! Not too shabby.

Email, Facebook, or Twitter– they're all accessible in the righthand sidebar, thataway. ==>>

Random Review: The Kennel Club Murder Case

Random Review is a monthly article reviewing something– books, blogs, movies, art– who knows, really? But it will be fashion related, some way, somehow.

A couple of weeks ago I treated myself to another dreamboat William Powell movie—I watched him last year in My Man Godfrey with Claudette Colbert (hilarious lady!), in which he was utterly charming.

As the title indicates, The Kennel Murder Case had a very different feel from the light comedy and social commentary of Godfrey. But in true old Hollywood fashion, the—um—fashion did not disappoint.

Style Questions: When is tie-dye ok?

A friend recently asked me my opinion on tie-dye.

I'd like your opinion on tie dye. Not like neon yellow and green and all, more subtle, black & white and I suppose more on the batik end of the spectrum than grateful dead, if that makes sense.

Happy to oblige!

Tie-dye lost its charm for me immediately after the Woodstock commemoration in 1994, when I was in 7th grade.

Recent sightings on yoga wear and ladies’ casual clothes have provoked nothing but a violent gag reflex.

Thou shalt not. Ever.

Trunk Show Recap

My display table

Reporting back from a super-fun Girls' Night Out at Sequel Consignments in Bethel!

Had a great time with some very cool and stylin' women at the Analogue Chic + Piedra Posy Trunk Show. Wine was drunk, Fritos were eaten, necks were adorned with gorgeous stones, and a few lucky peeps went home with Analogue Chic-curated vintage handbags! Lucky us!

Magically, our first customer of the evening was a lovely acquaintance I met a couple of years ago at a pin-up photo shoot – we recognized each other immediately, not having kept in touch since then, and reminisced about the shoot. So nice!

Monkeys make bad stylists.

This prose poem composed itself for you one night while I couldn't sleep. Which may explain a lot.

When you get out of the shower in the morning

and the bitchy, sociopathic monkeys in your brain

start giving you their unsolicited opinion–

"Your thighs are lumpy. Your arms are jiggly.

What are you doing with your hair?! You can't wear that."–

just give them a banana and tell them to sit in the corner.

Style Advice from the Mouths of Babes

Still from Pretty in Pink.

Found this great piece this week written by a teen reporter from Trumbull, CT.

It is important to to really utilize your inner instincts of what type of clothes draw you in. This may seem strange if you are used to investing in clothes that please other people instead of yourself, but it is a positive change that should be made. …

When you know what it is that you like, do not be afraid of what others will think. No one should hide their true self behind clothes their peers approve of. …

So when searching for the pair of shoes that everyone has, stop yourself, and choose the pair of shoes that fits you, not your peers. Every person that wears something that is perfect for them should be congratulated for continuing the quest of being their own distinct person.

For more excellent analysis of teen style and the movie Pretty in Pink, I highly recommend this article by Alli at On This Day in Fashion.

Book an appointment with me to start your own quest to being your own distinct person – I'm a wardrobe consultant! And I'm really nice!

I made this. Yes, I know what's wrong with it. My online Illustrator class was almost useless.

My friend, Cindy, of Sequel, one of my fave local consignment stores, and her retail neighbor, Lizie, of Dizzy Lizie's, are both celebrating anniversaries this year. Come party down with them onSaturday, April 9! 101 Greenwood Ave, Bethel.

Meantime, enter their March Madness Makeover Contest – free to enter – and get some really awesome prizes: hair services, clothes, and Closet Editing by yours truly.

Cindy, Lizie, and I sincerely love our customers, and all our sister-women-people out there, and we really hate it when we see our girls not looking their best because they don't believe they're worth it.

You're worth it!

We're really nice, laidback, fun chicks, and we promise we'll take good care of you.

Go fill out and entry form at Sequel or Lizie's, and we'll see you at the party, April 9!

Our lucky lady winner will get all lovely and pampered during that week, and we'll show her off at our special trunk show event on Friday, April 15! I will be there, featuring my unique, upcycled designs and select vintage accessories.

Change your job, change your style

I’ve been hearing from a number of people lately who are starting new jobs or new positions at their longterm employer—it’s so nice to hear positive employment news for a change!

Change has been afoot in fashion as well—New York Fashion Week kicked off the global presentations for Fall 2011, the Spring fashion magazines are out, and several magazines had a reshuffling of their masthead, notably the editor-in-chief position at French Vogue.

Stateside, the trendy shopper mag, Lucky, also acquired a new EIC.  Brandon Holley’s inaugural Editor’s Letter described her transition from working at home to moving back into the office.

I think it’s a storyline familiar to a lot of women…

Tute Review: Not.

This entry is part 3 of 5 in the series Tute Review

Not so much a review this month– sorry. But here are a couple of tutorials I found this week that I'm dying to try.

Adorable layered dress

Via Craftzine

I want to try making this more versatile by creating a skirt with a wide waistband, rather than a dress with a strapless bodice.

By Honestly WTF

I'm seeing this as a shimmery, badass necklace.

Are you going to try these? Let me know how it goes – comment and add your pictures on the Analogue Chic Facebook page!
