Danbury Street Style: Shannon on Main

They say necessity breeds creativity.

I swear, street people in Danbury are better dressed than most people who have a lot more resources. Just look at who is featured in my past street style photos.

Yesterday I met Shannon, a former paralegal, and thanked my lucky stars that I had my camera with me. She was gracious enough to let me take her picture as we crossed paths on Main Street.

How not to look like a “mom”

You can spot a “mom” a mile away…

So this Mother’s Day, don’t give Mom that bottle of perfume. Give her something that says, ‘I’m not a woman any more. I’m a Mom.’Saturday Night Live spoof.

Unfortunately, moms have gotten a bad rap for style—they either don’t try hard enough, or try too hard, both ends of the spectrum that are embarrassing to their offspring…

New Fairfield prom event follow-up

Holy satin and tulle, Batman!

You probably remember the prom event I participated in a couple of weeks ago.

It was a lot of fun hanging outwith the young'uns and talking dresses. And I was really impressed with the organization and presentation of the event. It was set up really well, almost like a retail boutique, and the Community Service Club thought of everything – water and magazines for parents, spacious dressing rooms, coffee and tea, and clearly marked price tags, and long plastic garment bags for purchases.

Win a make(over) and hire me. For free.

I made this. Yes, I know what's wrong with it. My online Illustrator class was almost useless.

My friend, Cindy, of Sequel, one of my fave local consignment stores, and her retail neighbor, Lizie, of Dizzy Lizie's, are both celebrating anniversaries this year. Come party down with them onSaturday, April 9! 101 Greenwood Ave, Bethel.

Meantime, enter their March Madness Makeover Contest – free to enter – and get some really awesome prizes: hair services, clothes, and Closet Editing by yours truly.

Cindy, Lizie, and I sincerely love our customers, and all our sister-women-people out there, and we really hate it when we see our girls not looking their best because they don't believe they're worth it.

You're worth it!

We're really nice, laidback, fun chicks, and we promise we'll take good care of you.

Go fill out and entry form at Sequel or Lizie's, and we'll see you at the party, April 9!

Our lucky lady winner will get all lovely and pampered during that week, and we'll show her off at our special trunk show event on Friday, April 15! I will be there, featuring my unique, upcycled designs and select vintage accessories.

Style Calendar Check-up

My original style calendar– taking you month-to-month through the nitty-gritty of wardrobe discipline—has been available since January.

Did you get yours yet? Whaddaya think? (No, seriously, I wanna know. Email me.)

Have you been following along with the monthly to-dos?

So long, slush and snow! I'm driving to Gibraltar, it seems...

It’s March, which is a relief—as much as I love cool-weather fashion, for all the great layering that goes with it, there’s only so much I can take.

Spring is about to roll all up in here, so it’s wardrobe transition time.

Check the calendar for a break down of tasks to make an easy switch into warm weather sexiness.

Time Management Tip: If your schedule is totally bonkers, and tidying up your dresser is the last thing you want to do, you can totally get it done in 15-minute-increments.

Just pick a task, set the timer, and when the bell goes off, get back to your regularly scheduled insanity.  (That’s a trick I learned from FLYLady. Love her.)

Oh, you don’t have your calendar yet? Well mosey on over here, join my List of Lovelies, and the calendar is yours.

Time Management Lifesaver:

My Closet Editing Package makes the seasonal-wardrobe-transition totally painless, while also giving you the hands-on training on how to make it manageable instead of monumental. Plus I’ll give you priceless insight into developing your individual style and embracing your unique, beautiful body. Get the details here, and hire me, already!

Initial consultation is free. P.S. I offer Gift Certificates for any of my services, too.

Prom Revolution: 2 ways to recycle your prom gown

Prom Season is open! Be an eco-prom queen, or king!

The Community Service Club of New Fairfield is hosting a prom dress re-sale. They are accepting formal dresses less than 5 years old, which will be on sale at their Pretty for Prom Gown Sale, March 12th in New Fairfield.

All proceeds from the gown sale will be used for the CSC's Kids Dress for Success campaign, which provides school supplies and cold-weather gear for underprivileged kids in New Fairfield.

I will be on hand for FREE mini style consultations, and I'll also display my upcycled accessories and vintage handbags for sale.

More fallout from the Mayor’s Ball

My original fashion rundown on this year's Danbury, CT Mayor's Ball is here, if you missed it.

I just discovered a source for more photos from the Danbury Mayor's Ball 2011. More gloves, more color (including redheads wearing red! love!), and cute centerpieces.

By photographer Christine Rose, who also works with this amazing Native American advocacy organization, Changing Winds.
