Street Style: Shannon as Earth Goddess

I met up with Shannon again last week, and she was rockin' the earthy vibes with this amazing embroidered tunic. I also love how she pinned a Celtic knot brooch to her jeans.

Street Style: Wallpaper

Ch. 1

This building greeted me and Hubz as we pulled off the highway into Philadelphia last weekend. It’s located on Vine Street, just north of Chinatown.

I can’t tell if it’s actually very well-preserved wall paper from the adjacent building (now a parking lot) or a more recent addition of very creative street art. I have my spies working to find out more about it.

How Not to Dress Like an Old Lady…

…even if you are one.

Here is interior decorator and NYC social fixture Iris Apfel, photographed by Roger Davies for the June 2011 issue of Architectural Digest.

What happened to the Analogue Chic Amazon Shop?

This entry is part 4 of 4 in the series Style Tools

They don't wanna play with us anymore.

Here is the actual letter I received regarding the end– just for Connecticut residents– of the Amazon Affiliate program .

Hello,

Me: O hai.

For well over a decade, the Amazon Associates Program has worked with thousands of Connecticut residents. Unfortunately, the budget signed by Governor Malloy contains a sales tax provision that compels us to terminate this program for Connecticut-based participants effective immediately.

I see. So you're not prepared to play by the rules like a brick-and-mortar business? OK.

It specifically imposes the collection of taxes from consumers on sales by online retailers – including but not limited to those referred by Connecticut-based affiliates like you – even if those retailers have no physical presence in the state.

We opposed this new tax law because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive.

Not sure I agree with you there…

It was supported by big-box retailers,

Not surprising…

most of which are based outside Connecticut, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors.

I'm not sure they care about us little affiliates. They are already getting pretty big tax breaks here…

Similar legislation in other states has led to job and income losses, and little, if any, new tax revenue.

I would like to see your data on this.

We deeply regret that we must take this action.

I'm sure.

As a result of the new law, contracts with all Connecticut residents participating in the Amazon Associates Program will be terminated today, June 10, 2011.

Oh. Thanks for the advance notice.

Those Connecticut residents will no longer receive advertising fees for sales referred to Amazon.com, Endless.com, MYHABIT.COM or SmallParts.com. Please be assured that all qualifying advertising fees earned on or before today, June 10, 2011, will be processed and paid in full in accordance with the regular payment schedule.

Yippee. All three cents.

You are receiving this email because our records indicate that you are a resident of Connecticut. If you are not currently a resident of Connecticut, or if you are relocating to another state in the near future, you can manage the details of your Associates account here. And if you relocate to another state after June 10, 2011, please contact us for reinstatement into the Amazon Associates Program.

I'm not sure that I would wish to be "reinstated" if I were to move to another state. You might suddenly shut down again for some other reason.

To avoid confusion, we would like to clarify that this development will only impact our ability to offer the Associates Program to Connecticut residents and will not affect their ability to purchase from www.amazon.com.

Oh no, of course not. But won't I have to pay sales tax on those purchases? But you're not closing down in protest?

We have enjoyed working with you and other Connecticut-based participants in the Amazon Associates Program and, if this situation is rectified, would very much welcome the opportunity to re-open our Associates Program to Connecticut residents.

Regards,

The Amazon Associates Team

Peace out.

So, if you were wondering, that's what happened to my nifty little Amazon Affiliate Shop filled with handy dandy style tools.

What I Wore: a new take…

It's been a hectic few weeks, with multiple jobs, as well as wacko weather, prohibiting me from getting quality photos of my more stylish outfits. So I decided to go analogue, and do some quick sketches to record my style. Professional illustrator I am not, but I think you'll get the point.

Wore this to work at my new/old office job. It is really challenging for me to look neat and professional when it's 90 degrees out…

Danbury Street Style: Shannon on Main

They say necessity breeds creativity.

I swear, street people in Danbury are better dressed than most people who have a lot more resources. Just look at who is featured in my past street style photos.

Yesterday I met Shannon, a former paralegal, and thanked my lucky stars that I had my camera with me. She was gracious enough to let me take her picture as we crossed paths on Main Street.

Not trashy: Fashion fun at Ideat Village’s Project Walkway

Oh my! This almost turned out to be the first week in a good long while where I didn't post at all! (Help a sister out, y'all.)

Wednesday night, I stayed out way past my bedtime to participate in Project Walkway, the upcycled fashion, family-friendly challenge at Ideat Village, the homegrown alternative to New Haven's International Festival of Arts and Ideas.

What I Wore: Marie Antoinette’s Half Birthday Picnic

I'm sure you saw my little note earlier about the costume picnic I planned in celebration of Mary Antoinette's Half-Birthday.

In spite of the glorious weather and my mad marketing skills, we had less turnout than I hoped for…  Your loss.

But a good time was had by all, while it lasted. I'm not sure if my friends would want their photos shared on the 'tubes, so I'll just share what I wore, and they will remain anonymous…

How Not to Dress Like An Old Lady

(Even if you are one.)

I'm not going to take credit for that– that is from a wonderful reader who has left some very helpful comments here. Merci. ;)

Since I have sudden amnesia specific to the concept of "free time", you'll probably be seeing more inspirational posts here for a while, rather than wordy, thoroughly-produced articles. For that, you should read Already Pretty, where Sally writes about  all the topics (literally- it's like she bugged my brain) I would like to discuss with you, and does a much better job at it.

Here we have stylist and fashion editor Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, photographed by Steven Meisel.

A woman not to be fuqed with.
