Holy hats, Batman! The Millinery Exhibit at the Danbury Museum
Mega millinery is now up for viewing at the Danbury Museum. Read my preview here, with an interview with the guest curator.
And here's what folks were wearing at the exhibit opening this past Saturday, June 4:
Remnants: Random Fashion Goings-On
Local fashion-related events, in no particular order.
19th Century women's shoes from the collection of the Mattatuck Museum
The documentary biography of renowned street-style photographer Bill Cunningham is playing at Bethel Cinema again this week. HIGHLY recommended if you are interested in fashion, photography, NY life, or just stories of interesting people.
The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury has an exhibit through September illustrating themes in interior decor and objects of daily life, including costumes and textiles.
The Danbury Museum will be opening a major exhibit of women's hats spanning 3 centuries, on Saturday, June 4. Look for my interview with the guest curator, this week at The Mercurial.
Street Style: Red 40
(Red 40 Lake was also a band in the '90s-'00s in central Connecticut, fronted by a former classmate of mine – anyone else heard of them or remember the glory days of Radio 104?)
This ice cream truck is so well-dressed, it has no idea.

You may have heard that the world as we know it is going to end this Saturday.
Stylewise, you have 2 main choices:

Tute Review (sort of): Marie Antoinette-Inspired DIY Fashion
If you're going to be in my 'hood on June 4, please come to my Picnic in Celebration of Marie Antoinette's Half-Birthday.
Portrait of Marie Antoinette by Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun.
Costumes are required! We're going for tons of lace, ribons, bows, and pastel colors! Inspired by the fashionable queen herself, and Sofia Coppola's 2006 movie. (Take a look at these party photos for more inspiration, esp. for the gents.)
Here are a couple of DIY tutorials to help you get your costume properly ruffled and ribboned.
What is analogue chic?
Not a Jeopardy answer. An occasional, very sporadic feature in which I gush about stylish relics of the analogue era, or modern analogue design.
I’m an analogue girl in a digital world… – Erykah Badu
Still from Desk Set, starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and some fantastic outfits. Via aatombomb.
A range of young artists who use "obsolete" technologies to create their work. (click if you love innovation and craftsmanship.)
An incredible hobby-turned-business-turned-archive of major historical significance. (click if you love vinyl.)
The death rattle of typewriter manufacturing, fact and fiction. (click if you love clacking keys and dinging bells.)
Trunk Show Recap
My display table
Reporting back from a super-fun Girls' Night Out at Sequel Consignments in Bethel!
Had a great time with some very cool and stylin' women at the Analogue Chic + Piedra Posy Trunk Show. Wine was drunk, Fritos were eaten, necks were adorned with gorgeous stones, and a few lucky peeps went home with Analogue Chic-curated vintage handbags! Lucky us!
Magically, our first customer of the evening was a lovely acquaintance I met a couple of years ago at a pin-up photo shoot – we recognized each other immediately, not having kept in touch since then, and reminisced about the shoot. So nice!
Tute Review: High-waisted skirt
{Once upon a time, there was no need to describe a skirt as “high-waisted” because everyone always wore skirts with the waistline at their natural waist, i.e. usually the narrowest part of most ladies, and therefore the most flattering to emphasize.}
{Le sigh…}
Your DIY tutorial this month is this unabashedly feminine skirt, courtesy of Out of Order.

DIY of the month: Your Easter Bonnet
Image via Summa Mamas
Easter is a good excuse, but the beginning of spring is reason enough to don some super-girly headgear. Whether you're going to church, or frolicking in the meadows, try your hand at making a fascinator (known in the olden days as a cocktail hat).
Tute Review: Not.
Not so much a review this month– sorry. But here are a couple of tutorials I found this week that I'm dying to try.
Adorable layered dress
I want to try making this more versatile by creating a skirt with a wide waistband, rather than a dress with a strapless bodice.

I'm seeing this as a shimmery, badass necklace.
