Are you a Donna or a Janis?
Reference to a forthcoming book, and a quote from Mad Men…
Take the quiz! or not!
Pick your flyer, and come to my pop-up shop, this weekend, during Taste of Danbury, Danbury Day, and all the rest of the hoopla!
This is my homage to the punk-band flyers my friends made in high school: ballpoint pen + copy paper + clip art or zombie cartoon, and done.
Come on down!

what i wore
Just tell me if you’re getting sick of outfit posts – I don’t have a lot of time for writing just now…
2 days ago, and today.
Vintage cotton dress, 1950’s, gold and cream woven stripes – thrifted about 10 years ago. I can’t believe my tush still fits into this. Sorry, no bullet bra.
Go-to gray wool cardigan.
Patent belt.
Black herringbone pattern tights – Target
Vintage charm bracelet – from a secondhand store on East Main St, Torrington, like, before I was in high school. A looooong time ago. There is a charm here from LaGuardia Airport. Newer charms received as a gift from my friend Kryste.
Very period-authentic peep toe heels with ankle strap – from Spiegel, about 10 years ago. {I have to admit these are not the shoes I wore to work – my back has been twinging, I think from wearing heels too much, so I wore flats.}
This week’s fashion links
Warning: lazy post.
- Oprah holds an accessories intervention. Well worth watching – the right accessories can make you look and feel better, and it’s an inexpensive way to get more use out of your wardrobe.
- Paris hosts two jaw-dropping exhibits of 1930’s fashion:
- Italy’s "May Queen" at the Mona Bismarck Foundation Paris Cultural Center;
- Madeleine Vionnet at Arts Decoratifs (sorry, French only, but lots of pictures).
Enjoy!

{stupid title employing the phrase 'hanky panky' here}
In the northeast US, it’s full-bore allergy season, and if you’re like me you’ve been going through eye drops and tissues like it’s the apocalypse. Every week, I empty my bedside trashcan, containing 99% used tissues.
I do make an effort to order 100% recycled tissues from Seventh Generation, but as far as I know, we still don’t have a way to safely recycle booger-filled paper tissues. And we haven’t yet implemented the people’s revolution at my condo, so I have no way to compost them, which would be ideal.
So this year, I’m bringing back the handkerchief as an essential ladies’ accessory.

A fabulous woman once said, "Listen– I love Jesus, but I drink a little."
That’s kinda how I am: I think Jesus was great, but I don’t celebrate Easter as a religious holiday. I do love bunnies, chocolate, springtime, and hats, though– and I love them all even more in outrageous rainbow colors.
So I’ve decided that I’m going to start going full tilt, fashion-wise, for Easter from now on.
Here’s my Easter bonnet for 2009, a vintage Jack McConnell.

It’s a few sizes too small for my noggin, so I have to wear it kind of high on the crown and low on the forehead. But I think it works. And, a plus, I don’t have to take it off to get in the car.
I really wanted to go to New York for the Easter Parade this year, but had a lovely time with my family instead. After seeing these pictures, though, I’m totally going to brave the City next year. Oh my stars and garters…
