Danbury Street Style – Advanced Style Edition
As per usual, when I want my camera, I don’t have it; and when I do have my camera, I don’t need it so it just weighs down my bag until I take it out again. I don’t understand this curse…
Today I finally met lovely Valerie (gosh, I hope I remembered her name correctly…) at the library– I have seen her before around town, and recognized her by her awesome sneakers. Unfortunately, her great juxtaposition of colors and prints must suffer to be captured by my crummy phone camera.
Valerie is rocking a pink tee with blue and white floral capris. Her black and pink cheetah print sneakers and ikat-style print bag are from Forever 21.
The Busstop
…is always entertaining, usually for the wrong reasons.
Today, I found Ellen, which was so right.

(My apologies to Miss Ellen and my dear readers for the poor quality camera-phone shots…)
Ellen is on the bus with me occasionally, and I’ve noticed her outfits before. In particular I remember a nice plaid cape she had on one chilly morning.
Today, she had on a cute print sheath dress, and over it a camel color, ruffled duster sweater. Like me, she was wearing her walking shoes– I should have asked her to show me the pair she was going to put on at the office!
Another rider on the bus this morning was dressed casually, but she put her outfit together really well.

She had on this sweatshirt-fleece jacket from Forever 21, gray yoga pants, and navy blue deck shoes – similar to these (link corrected 5/4/09 – sorry!) "eco-friendly" pairs from Keds. So classic. And I love that she pulled off the comfy look without seeming like she was still in her PJs or going to the gym.
PS Forever 21 is also apparently getting on the ‘green’ bandwagon with– you’ll never guess– tote bags! and a couple of t-shirts! Excuse me, I dripped a little sarcasm there…
Mystery Hat Found!

The sparkly hat reappeared! This fellow is sporting a disco-worthy newsboy cap– actually sort of a leopard print on gold lame– handlebar mustache and paint-splattered leather jacket. Very Village People.
Reminds me of a less-refined version of this guy.
The hat is available at– where else?– Danbury Dollar and Gift, 249 Main Street.

Stay in school, kids.
Street Fashion Sagas
I am looking for a man in a gold-sequined cap. He was last seen around 11:30 this morning, standing outside of a Main Street bakery, smoking a cigarette, and talking to two other people, at least one of whom was a woman. As I said, gold sequins adorning a newsboy-style cap, black leather jacket, mustache, perhaps a goatee. Anyone with more information about this man, or his hat, should contact me immediately. Or, if he is in your immediate vicinity, please distract him until I arrive on the scene with my camera. Fans of street-fashion photography everywhere will thank you.
Takin' it to the streets
Photographers documenting street fashion have been getting a lot of press lately: The Sartorialist, Garance Dore and others are the newer kids on the block; New York Magazine has The Look Book; Bill Cunningham has been at the game for much longer at the New York Times. (Video interview here. I was introduced to Mr. Cunningham’s work by this great New Yorker article.)
And there’s a "democratization" process taking place, I think, in fashion in general, to the point where designers are actually using the street as their venue of choice for shows.
Given my dormant aspirations to be a photographer, and my current fashion projects, I’ve come up with the scheme of putting a similar street-fashion feature here on the blog.
