The Love/Hate Relationship With Fashion
Edited by Debutante Clothing I’m always complaining about going out to fashion events by myself – I just don’t have many friends that are into fashion. While some people think fashion is frivolous and contributes nothing to the world, others are curating museum exhibits featuring 20th century clothing. This week’s links made me think about the love/hate camps in fashion. Starting with Grit and Glamour’s post on bloggers getting backlash from fashion insiders, Houndstooth + Tortoiseshell’s refreshingly funny admission of Tavi envy, or Fab Lab’s hate of people who hate. But there is some love in sight – British Style Bloggers reminds us to look in the mirror and love ourselves. Enjoy! Got a tip* today on an lovely new blog, A Collection a Day, by artist Lisa Congdon, an illustrator and collector.

Images copyright Lisa Congdon.
This is my attempt to document my collections, both the real and the imagined. Some of my collections are so large that I will need to photograph them separately over several days. I will likely not attempt to photograph collections in which the individual pieces are large in size or awkward in shape (i.e. my art collection or vintage enamel dishware collection). The only rule is that I must photograph or draw a whole or part of a collection each day for 365 days and post the result here on this blog.

Mini update, and radio silence
Hello, lovelies–
Just a note on business and blogging.
If you read this blog regularly (the two of you know who you are), you will notice a lot of radio silence between posts. As I mentioned, I’m planning a wedding, and all side projects are mostly on hold while I sew up my ceremonial wedding garb. It involves an iconic, Chinese style dress, and a certain cartoon character from the early 80s… not necessarily in the same garment. You’ll just have to wait and see…

However, Analogue Chic is still open for business online, on Etsy, and on WinkElf. I’m introducing Vintage Clothing at both shops, and I’m gradually uploading lots of cute, summery apparel and handbags. If you’re a vintage fan, bookmark this blog, go to the Shop tab, and check back frequently.
And I’m debuting my latest personal style revamp, an ode to young ladies of the 50s and 60s: housewives, office workers, and pin ups – depends on my mood, how much makeup I want to wear. So, I’ll try to document that here over the summer, and post lots of fun pics.
Stay tuned! Send me your style questions and comments, fun eco-craft projects, and other oddities, and I’ll post them here.
Be good -
xoxo,
AC
New Toy
Found a new toy today: Polyvore.com. Oh, the fabulosity! It lets you create collages of clothes, decor, whatever, by pulling images from all over the web, and of course you can add your own.
This is going to be really helpful to me, since I tend to collect lots of links and pictures from the internet, magazines, etc., “just in case”… and they sit in my hard drive, or in files in my bedroom, never to see the light of day.
If you’re at all into textiles, fashion, graphics, or interior decorating, you should give it a look. It could be great for playing with color, pattern, composition…
I’ll put my first collage in a new post soonish.
