Positive Body Image: the gospel of Dr. Estes
Analoguistas, I’m here to spread the gospel of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
Her massive bestseller, Women Who Run with the Wolves*, got me through my quarter-life crisis and basically saved my life. Hence the wolf paw tattoo on my hand that you’ve probably noticed in my outfit photos.
I recommend her to 99% of the women I meet, and I have actually given copies of WWRWTW to all of the women I am close to.
She’s that good.
Mind you, I owned the book for 12 years before I could read the whole thing—from the tender age of 12 or 13 when I had my feminist “click” and started acquiring all manner of woman-y books. Obviously, the Universe knew what the right time was for me to read it.
If you can at all scrounge up some dough (split it with a friend!), I would highly recommend that you sign up for her upcoming audio series, The Joyous Body, a continuation of her many works exploring what she calls the “wild woman archetype”, and specifically from her forthcoming work on “the dangerous old woman.”
It starts on April 6, runs for 6 weekly sessions, and the mp3s are available for download if you miss a session.
Here’s what she says about our gorgeous bods:
…the beautiful Consort who came to earth with us, who has endured much, and is one of the most misunderstood aspects of divinity, creativity and soul that we carry… and also who carries us in all tenderness and loyalty even when ill, even when hurt and healing, and also when radiant.
As I’ve mentioned here before, I think body “issues” are the single most serious thing that women and girls have to deal with, and make peace with, if not total joy (the goal), in order to be healthy, happy, and whole.
This will be well-worth your investment of time and money, believe me.
If you can’t find her books, can’t afford her audio seminars, or just want to get a taste of her wisdom and style beforehand, she is very prolific on Facebook.
Loving you and your bod,
